The stuff we test for, and what it means.
Every well is different. What comes out of your tap depends on your geology, your neighbors, and how deep the pump is set. Here's what usually shows up in NC.
Orange or rust stains
Iron. Stains sinks, tubs, toilets, and laundry. Also gives water a metallic taste. Handled with an iron filter or a combo softener/iron unit.
Blue-green stains
Acidic (low pH) water eating your copper pipes. Left alone it eats the pump too. A neutralizer raises pH and stops it cold.
Soap won't lather
Hard water. Calcium and magnesium leaving scale in pipes, water heater, and appliances. A softener fixes it and extends the life of everything downstream.
Rotten-egg smell
Sulfur (hydrogen sulfide). Usually treatable with the right filter or a system flush. We test to make sure it's not a water heater issue first.
Cloudy or gritty water
Sediment, sand, or a failing filter. Could also be the well drawing air. We check the source before recommending a fix.
Bacteria or coliform positive
Serious but fixable. Shock chlorination plus a UV system on the main line kills bacteria and viruses without chemicals in your drinking water.
Right-sized systems, not a sales pitch.
We only recommend what your water test actually shows you need. Nothing extra, nothing to justify a bigger invoice.
Water Softeners
Removes calcium and magnesium hardness. Ends scale in pipes and appliances. Sized by hardness level and household demand.
Acid Neutralizers
Raises pH on acidic wells. Stops copper corrosion and blue-green staining. Very common need in western NC.
UV Purification
Sanitizing UV light on the main line. Kills bacteria and viruses without chemicals. Chlorine-free.
Iron & Sulfur Filters
Air-injection oxidation or catalytic media to remove iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide. No more orange stains or rotten-egg smell.
Sediment / Cartridge Filters
Whole-house sediment filtration and cartridge stages for pre-filtration, ahead of softeners and UV.
Twin-Tank Combo Systems
Multi-stage setups. Neutralizer plus softener, or softener plus iron filter. Sized as one system so they don't fight each other.
Free water test. Then we talk about equipment.
We don't quote a treatment system without knowing what's actually in the water. First visit, we pull a sample and run it. Then you get a real conversation about what you need (and what you don't).

Water Test
5.0★ on every review.
Jacob and his crew came in clutch. Our well had collapsed and not many companies were willing to respond late on a Saturday night. His team showed up with positive attitudes and saved the day. Down to earth, knowledgeable, and helpful. 10/10 recommend!
An excellent experience from start to finish. Jake answered right away when I called late last night. Wayne and Will arrived first thing, quickly diagnosed the problem, and the entire system was installed and completed before dinner. Professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They absolutely saved the day!
Jake and his crew were phenomenal. Our pump went out over the weekend and they responded that evening, came the next day, and had our water running again in no time. Great communication, friendly and trustworthy staff. You can tell they care. Wouldn't recommend anyone else before Ridgeline.

Water treatment FAQ
Why does my well water stain sinks and fixtures?
Orange, red, or brown stains almost always mean iron. Blue-green stains point to acidic (low pH) water eating copper. Both are common in NC and both are fixable with the right treatment.
What is a neutralizer?
A tank filled with calcium media that raises the pH of acidic well water. It stops copper corrosion, protects fixtures and the pump, and prevents blue-green staining.
Softener vs neutralizer: what's the difference?
A softener removes hardness (calcium/magnesium) that causes scale. A neutralizer raises pH to stop corrosion from acidic water. Some homes need one, some need both. A water test tells you.
Do I need UV purification?
Yes if your well has ever tested positive for bacteria (E. coli, coliform), or if the wellhead is at risk from runoff or nearby livestock. UV kills bacteria and viruses without chemicals.
How often should I service my treatment system?
Softeners and neutralizers need media top-up every few years. UV bulbs get replaced annually. Iron filters need periodic backwash checks. We handle service on any system we install and most we don't.
Will treatment fix my low pressure?
Not usually. Low pressure is almost always a pump, tank, or pressure switch problem, not a water quality problem. Call and we'll figure out which.
